CLINICS

Services

All GP practices are contracted to provide 'essential services', that is basic treatment of ill people. We also provide the following 'additional services'.

Child Health Surveillance

A child health surveillance clinic takes place every Wednesday afternoon from 2.15 until 3.15pm. Attendance is by appointment only. The clinic is provided by Dr Whittaker. Health visitors are available without appointment during this clinic.

Children's Immunisation

This is provided by our practice nurses. A special clinic is held on Wednesday afternoons for baby immunisations.

Tetanus

All adults who have not had a full primary course of three tetanus injections are advised to have them at monthly intervals. Thereafter, adults are advised to have a tetanus booster vaccination at 10-yearly intervals, until a total of five injections have been given.

Influenza and Pneumonia Vaccine

In accordance with Department of Health guidelines, we recommend influenza and pneumonia vaccinations for patients with diabetes, chronic heart, lung or kidney disease and patients over the age of 65. We also recommended the influenza vaccine for carers.

Travel Vaccinations

Our experienced practice nurses offer a comprehensive travel service including advice about anti-malarial prophylaxis. You should make an appointment with the practice nurse at least six to eight weeks prior to your planned journey.

Please tell the receptionist that you wish to make an appointment for travel advice.

Please bring any records of previous vaccinations to your appointment.

Some vaccines are kept at the surgery but others need to be ordered or obtained on prescription. Please note that for certain vaccinations a fee is chargeable (see list of charges at reception). We are not a registered Yellow Fever Clinic but can advise you of the nearest centre.

Cervical Smears

All our practice nurses can perform these in routine appointments.

HRT Clinic

All of the doctors can advise about HRT, but Dr Carter holds a weekly HRT clinic every Friday. Attendance is by appointment only.

If you are uncertain about starting or are unhappy with your current HRT, then this may be the clinic for you.

Antenatal Clinic

The practice antenatal clinic runs every Thursday from 2.00 to 3.30pm and is taken by Dr Hill and by the midwife attached to our practice.

Family Planning Advice

This is offered by all partners and nurses at any consultation. Dr Hill is the only doctor that fits coils. You will usually be asked to make a special appointment for this after your initial consultation. Our practice nurse, Ruth Adams, can advise on contraceptive implants.

Minor Surgery

Joint and soft tissue injections are provided by Dr Purwar. It is sometimes possible to carry out joint injections in an ordinary appointment but on occasions you may be asked to make a special appointment.

Cryotherapy Clinic (Wart Clinic)

Certain skin problems such as warts can be treated with liquid nitrogen. We do not usually make appointments for children under the age of 10 for treatment with liquid nitrogen.

Diabetic Clinic

This clinic provides an annual review for diabetics who are not under the care of a hospital diabetic centre. The clinic is run by Dr Srinivas and a practice nurse. Attendance is by invitation.

Asthma Clinic

This clinic is run by a practice nurse who has special training in the management of asthma. Attendance is by appointment.

OTHER SERVICES

There are certain other services not covered by the NHS. A list of the appropriate charges for these is available at reception and on display in the waiting room.
